I knew exactly where I was going, but didn’t know how to get there. Not exactly. I was heading for California, for my new life, but I needed to make sure I was leaving my old life behind. I was running from my parents and I was running from myself. If I didn’t make it on my own, who would I call? Who could I call? I took a deep breath as I realized I had only myself to rely on. I smiled as I saw the ‘Welcome to California’ sign and knew I had done the right thing.

Wonderful first and last lines, and everything in between. I have a feeling they will do just fine.

“Wherever you go, there you are.” Yet, many found what they needed in Cal. Others not so much.
