Had I known I was going to have guests at 4 AM, I would’ve tidied up. Had I known James would be one of the guests, I never would have opened the door in the first place. I would have let the incessant knocks go unanswered, but I thought someone must be hurt or they wouldn’t be pounding on the door so early in the morning. When I looked through the peep hole in the front door, all I had seen were Angelina and Taylor so I let them in. As soon as I opened the door, I knew it was a mistake.
I had never been one to drink in excess and only had a glass of wine here and there. It was obvious Angelina and Taylor had spent most of their night at the bar and James had been the designated driver. At least that is what I assumed as he was able to walk through the door instead of pinging off the door jam. I should have known then he didn’t have good intentions. Why would he bring Angelina and Taylor to my place instead of going to his place? Or even Angelina and Taylor’s shared apartment?
Thirty minutes later, Angelina was throwing up while Taylor held her hair back, laughing. Just when I thought things were settling down, James locked himself in my bedroom and left me high and dry in the kitchen. I just hoped he wouldn’t find the money I had hidden from him.
