It started as a joke, but then became suddenly serious. I never found what prompted Pete to take the joke as far as he did, but here we are. I was originally told the shoes belonged to his brother, and every time Jace made him mad, Pete would throw his favorite shoes around the pole so they would quickly become ruined.
Now having been to Pete’s house, I know he doesn’t have a brother. And that the shoes he keeps destroying are his own and represent one of his major sins. A sin that coincided with a murder in town.

Oh dear. I hope you don’t “know too much.” Your shoes may be next.
Well done. 🙂

I liked the idea he was destroying his own shoes

We never really know about people who are close to us, obviously we don’t want to upset Pete. A slow build up with a good twist at the end.

Hold on to your shoes! Very creepy.

Now I’m wondering if any of my acquaintances have secrets hidden beneath the surface! Nice one.

Quite a twist. Not a story about brothers but about a hidden past and a solitary, tortured soul. Lots to ponder there.
