Henry

As soon as we made eye contact, I froze.  Henry didn’t seem to recognize me or at least he was doing a good job of hiding the fact we had just made eye contact.  I walked as quickly as I could toward my car.  As I reached for my keys, I felt a hand on my arm.  I froze for the second time in three minutes and slowly turned around to face the man who now had my arm.  I sighed when I saw that it was Henry.

We had been engaged when I found evidence he had recently been with another woman.  The very woman who was at the party with him tonight.  Henry had denied everything at the time, but couldn’t explain the pictures and receipts I had found.  He had even been dumb enough to ‘hide’ them in his bedside table.

“I can’t believe you would leave the party without saying hello,” he said smiling.  Smiling like nothing had ever happened between us.  It was all I could do to keep my jaw from hitting to the floor.

“You wanted me to come say hello to you and your new girlfriend?  You’re joking, right?”

“I don’t know why you can’t support us.”

At that, I got in my car and slammed the door before he could say anything else.  Unbelievable.  But he didn’t know what was happening at the party while he was outside with me.  About the photos that would be delivered with his dinner.
