Snowy

PHOTO PROMPT ยฉ Jennifer Pendergast

As I looked across the street at the newly fallen snow, I wondered what my future would hold.  I usually loved snow, but this year, the snow felt different.  Colder.  Less sentimental.  I knew life was changing, but was hoping change would come at a slower and easier pace.  After what happened yesterday, I thought I would have more time to get out.  To leave.  To surrender.  But now, I knew the seconds were quickly ticking by.  I knew the snow needed to melt soon so I could make a clean getaway.  Or else.

First, I think this matched the photo in a way that i was right there with this character, looking out at the snow. I also love how your story starts quiet, pondering at new snow – and then builds to where feel the urgency (seconds ticking) and Iwonder what happened yesterday!

The moment of tension comes across and the build up towards an escape from an unknown situation gives your story authentic fear for the character.

The hint at yesterday without giving the full account is novel and makes the reader thinks of a wide range of possibilities which may be replete with apprehensions.

I loved the way you invested the snow with meaning. The character came to life through the snow

Wonderful writing. We are holding our breaths for her and we don’t even know why!

Time always seems to move slowly until it doesn’t. Then it’s too late.

Oh, I felt her fear and indecision! Sometimes we dwell on the beauty of snow, forgetting that it can be a killer!
