The Singer

The moment Jordan opened his mouth, I knew he was destined to become a singer. He didn’t know it yet, but I was determined he would become a star. I knew he wouldn’t necessarily agree with me so I started slowly integrating myself into his life. I started taking writing classes so I could hopefully know the basics of songwriting. Selfishly, I started to wonder if Jordan would ever sing any of my songs, much less read them. The more I wrote, the more obsessed I became with hearing my songs sung live. The more I obsessed, the more fixated I became on Jordan singing my original songs.

As the semester flew by, I almost didn’t notice the day he didn’t leave campus at his usual time. He always studied in the campus center after lunch, but usually left by two o’clock. By the time I noticed he hadn’t left, it was almost 3:30 and out of morbid curiosity, I went looking. I shouldn’t have been surprised when I found him having coffee with Delia. Anger roiled in my stomach because I knew Delia would not have the same intentions with Jordan as I did. She would use him for her own purposes, while I alone could further the career that was best suited for Jordan. I finally allowed myself to come up with a plan. A plan to make myself more famous than both of them. They wouldn’t know what had hit them. Until my fame drenched their enthusiasm.
