I knew the car had to be mine the moment I saw it. It wouldn’t be as inconspicuous as I wanted to be with the bright green, but maybe standing out was a way I could stay hidden. I planned to hide in plain sight. I hated green, but I knew my brother wouldn’t come looking for me in the ugliest green car ever made. The moment I put my cash down on the greasy diner table, I knew I was free. What happened in the backyard wasn’t my fault, even if James didn’t want to admit it was his.
