Floating

I started floating the moment I saw the number on my caller ID.  I knew my dreams were about to come true and everything I had worked so hard for was finally at the finish line.  I wiped my clammy hands onto my blue jeans and reached for the phone and wondered again about what I was going to say.

I had been practicing all week for what I would say during this phone call, but I suddenly couldn’t remember anything.  Not a single word.  Panicked, I started to wonder if I should even answer the phone call I knew would change my life.  Before I made up my mind, the call ended.  The ringing ending ended any chance I had at my new life.

Edward was the only person who could really and truly change my life.  And I had let his call go to voicemail.  If there was one thing I knew about Edward, it was he did not leave voicemails.  You either answered the phone call or you didn’t.  I sank to the floor and felt my hands go cold.  Now I knew I would never see the sun again.  Edward would leave me in the tunnel.  Forever.
