I knew for my transformation to be complete, I would need to sign the dotted line. I had been holding a pen and staring at the contract for the last twenty minutes, unable to commit. I was contemplating the pros and cons but had not been able to keep them straight. Sometimes pros were cons and vice versa. As I thought and pondered, the more I could feel Bryan’s eyes boring into the side of my head.
I knew his career depended on whether or not I signed this very contract. He had stuck his neck out for me and I was now wavering. It hadn’t completely sunk in on how much I would owe Bryan if I signed this contract? How much of my life would he expect to control? I could feel my heartrate quicken the longer I stared at the contract.
While I finally put the pen back onto the table, Bryan sighed. Sighed, but didn’t utter a single word. I couldn’t decide what was worse. Without looking at Bryan, I quickly grabbed my coat and headed toward the office door. As soon as the cold breeze kissed my face, I knew the life I had carefully created over the last three years, gently blew away. The farther I walked the more certain I felt I was doomed.
Before I knew what I was doing, I turned quickly into the alley where Bryan’s stash was hidden.
