Broken

Part of me broke the day Liam drove away.  It was part heartbreak, but mostly shame.  If I hadn’t accidentally spilled his secret, he and his family wouldn’t be moving away.  It had to have been me that spilled be the beans, but I wasn’t sure when I had done it.  I am positive I am not the only one who knew about Liam’s secret as I was positive even his mother knew.

I could almost believe I was just the scapegoat for Liam’s anger and I was the easiest one to blame.  The easiest to blame because I was more of the shy and quiet type.  Little didn’t I know, (and in what would later almost blow Liam’s family apart) the truth would come out about who had really let the secret slip.  And why it mattered.  The longer I went without a word from Liam, the more suspicious I became.  I thought by the end of the month he would have figured out I had not been the snitch, the revealer of what he thought was his darkest secret.

In reality, the fact he never applied to any college and never planned to apply to or attend college, didn’t seem like it was a necessary secret to keep.  I’m not sure why not attending college was such a no-no for his parents, but apparently enough for them to leave town immediately.  Until I found out all the dirty details.  Like how his mother cleaned out his bank account.
