Bingo

I always thought my grandma won her extra money playing bingo with her friends.  She was always in the newest clothes, the newest fashion, paid her bills early and regularly had maintenance done on her car.  As she often played bingo (or at least told us she was off to bingo), I had never once questioned the actions of my grandmother.  She was by far the nicest one in the family and it wasn’t until after her death that I learned the truth.

My grandmother died peacefully in her sleep and while my family gathered to celebrate her life, my father was approached by her lawyer about the contents of her will.  Puzzlement over the fact she had a will and a lawyer without anyone knowing, quickly turned to surprise.  Surprise at the amount of money in her bank account and more so who she left her money to.   She had always treated my mother kindly, but the truth came out in her will.  My grandmother had lived a secret life none of us had known about.  A secret life full of gambling, felonies and murder.

The more we learned, the more shocked we became.  My grandmother was not really my grandmother, rather the woman who had destroyed my family decades before.  But now, it was too late for revenge.
