As soon as Mason walked into the room, I threw all my insecurities out the window. At least I tried to. I downed what was left of my wine and took a deep breath. Tonight was the night. I had to talk to him and find out exactly what had happened between Rosa and him.
She had become increasingly withdrawn since we had all gone to Alan’s birthday party together and I couldn’t shake the idea something awful had happened that night. After a few feeble attempts, Rosa stopped talking to me completely. I needed Mason to tell me exactly what had happened.
Before I lost my nerve, I stomped over to where Mason was waiting to pour himself a drink and tapped him on the shoulder. From his reaction, my tapping hadn’t been as soft as I had planned. And from the look on his face, I could tell I was not the person he was expecting to run into as his expression went from annoyed to terror in the blink of an eye. I opened my mouth to ask about Rosa when Mason opened his and started to scream. That’s when I noticed the blood.
