The Future

“Well, I didn’t see that coming,” I said as I watched my car sink deeper into the pond.  I glanced sideways as Suzy and almost laughed as her jaw seemed to be edging closer to the asphalt.  I knew I shouldn’t be so happy about my car sinking into a pond, but I knew I would be better off without it.  Better off without any of my current possessions.

But what Suzy didn’t understand was that I had recently signed my car over to her.  We looked enough alike that the DMV did not spare a second glance.  The extra money I slipped across the counter had helped.  I had been using my looks and inheritance to get exactly what I wanted for as long as I could remember and was not entirely confident I could and would get exactly what I wanted.

This time around, I needed to disappear completely.  If I didn’t, I would be dead before the week was over.  Suzy was, unfortunately, going to take the fall for me.  She had no family as she was estranged from what little family she had left, she was new to town and thus far she had no real friends.  She knew nothing of the plan I had put into place mainly because I had recently cloned her phone.  What I found out later was that it was not the only phone she had.  And she had known exactly what I was doing from the beginning.
