I knew as soon as I saw the pansies, I knew they were exactly what my mother would have wanted. But I wasn’t sure anymore if I cared what she wanted. She had left several weeks ago and hadn’t come back home. I knew I had to get on with my life. I had expected this to happen, the question was always when. I bent over, picked up the plants and headed toward the front when I froze. She was back, but something was wrong. As her eyes twitched, I suddenly caught on, but my jump wasn’t quite fast enough.
