The Ride of My Life

I chased the horses and wondered when I could ride one myself.  Everything I ever wanted in my life began and ended with horses.  But for now, I was relegated to watching them on television and reading them to life out of library books. With parents who treated me like a porcelain doll, my chances of riding a horse were slim to none.

When I turned thirteen, I started my rebellion against my parents.  I couldn’t live the quiet life anymore.  If I didn’t ride a horse and climb a mountain, I would lose it completely.  When Thanksgiving break came around, I made my break for the stables.  I had made sure to make friends with the girls who had horses.  At first, Angela, but soon learned how terrible she could be to anyone not in her perceived circle.

Angela started out as being someone I thought I could trust, but soon my secrets were all over school and all over the stables.  I didn’t much care what the kids at school would think as I didn’t hang around with them much anyway.  I didn’t wear the right clothes or have enough to fit in quite right.  But, by this point in my young life, I had learned enough about being sneaky so I made sure Angela never came back to the stables again.
