“I am honestly not sure how he is going to get over this. How is he going to get by. He was arrested!” I listened to my aunt rant and rave about my cousin’s latest arrest. If she knew how many times he had really been arrested, she would have a complete fit. She only knew about the few times the bail money when I couldn’t come up with it.
I never planned on telling my aunt what Jeff was up to because part of it was her fault. And I knew she would never forgive me if I did tell her.
“Martin! Did you know about this trouble Jeff is in again? My son is always in trouble these days.” My aunt surprised me by asking me what was happening with Jeff. She usually went straight to my dad because she knew he would lie to her. I never lied to her and she didn’t like it.
“Auntie, I -” I started, but was quickly interrupted.
“No. No, don’t tell me. I don’t want to know what my son is into today.” She quickly turned back to the kitchen.
I sighed with relief I didn’t have to tell her what Jeff’s latest scheme to launder money. And the only reason he was laundering money was because if he didn’t, she would steal it all from him.
