Bad Habits

As the river churned, I wondered if it was a reflection of my future.  I knew I needed to leave town as soon as possible.  Otherwise, I would sink back into the hard living of my past.  I knew I would immediately get sucked back in with my college friends and fall back into the parties that sprinkled our youth.

I knew Christy had fallen back into drugs since I had last seen her and I knew she had been selling to the new students.  There was no way she was able to afford the house she was living in unless she was still selling.  She had sworn up and down last time she was clean and sober, but I still had my doubts.  Christy had been a bartender at several different bars and restaurants and I knew she could mix a great drink.  But could she be sober while being surrounded by the temptation?

Before I knew what was happening, I was walking to the bar where Christy worked with a conviction.  I had to tell her what I knew and why I was leaving.  I had to be in and out or I would sink into bad habits.  All was over as soon as I ran into Sam.
