“You have to step into your power,” I whispered to myself. “On the count of three…”
I had been hyping myself up all morning for the exact moment. I only needed to confront Emily once. I had been rehearsing what I wanted to say so the words would come smoothly and freely. This was my chance to take back my life. My honor. My power.
I took one last deep breath and took my first step toward my new life. And one that didn’t include Emily. I needed to get everything out in the open so she and everyone else would know exactly what happened that night. Not just Emily’s version of it. The closer I got to her, the more nervous I became.
What if she just blew me off like the last time we had talked? What if she did it in front of everyone? And everyone believed her and not me? As I got closer, Emily appeared to be shining, glimmering in the sun. I instantly knew this was a bad idea. I recognized the shimmer. I had secretly called it her superpower. When in reality, I knew she was a fake. She was not entirely human. Not really here in real life. And I needed to learn all her secrets.
