Control

I never had control over my life from day one, but I knew I would have the control I needed.  Soon.  I had seen my opening coming for months and I only had to be patient to finally take my chance. Thomas was my chance and as far as I could tell, the only chance I had. Everyone in my family seemed to trust him explicitly whereas no one trusted me. All because of one mistake I made when I was fifteen.

It had been an honest mistake, but a major transgression according to my parents. There was no going back and there was no forgiveness. I had told them where I was going and what I was doing, but plans changed and I didn’t think of updating them.  When they found out I was down the street instead of safely inside my cousin’s house, they lost their minds. I was subsequently grounded for three months and had all electronics taken away. Which wasn’t the worst part since I had bought a laptop and phone my parents didn’t know about so I was still able to keep in touch with friends. Thomas was our neighbor and while they didn’t know I knew, my parents were planning for us to get married.

Shy and religious, Thomas was a nice guy, but nothing I wanted in a husband. But just the one to get me out of town. The only problem was his broken heart. And his violent revenge.
