On Purpose

“I know she did it on purpose.  There is no other reason as to why this happened. I just need to know – what are you going to do about it?” Kallie crossed her arms and stared at me. And I stared back in disbelief. I honestly had no idea of what she was talking about and was somewhat afraid to ask. Her temper was one of her strongest traits and if anyone disagreed with her, they had better be prepared for a fight.

Without thinking, I turned on my heel and walked away from Kallie without answering. I had no intention of getting into another argument I knew I would never win. I knew I was setting myself up for more problems in the future, but my mental health was more important. Especially now. When I felt her hand on my shoulder, I tensed. As I waited for her next move, I mentally went through what I needed to take out of the apartment. Items I couldn’t live without.

Before I could even get through the few items in my bedroom, I was lying on the floor. Not sure of how I got there, I quickly turned over to stare into Kallie’s cold eyes.

“You will not leave me. You will not leave me like everyone else does. Not this time.”

That’s the first time I saw the tools on the coffee table. Including the duct tape and my broken phone and laptop. I was in for a long night.
