“What do you think he is going to do next? Do you think he’s going to come over?” Sienna watched our neighbor, Greg, and kept narrating his every move. Greg was new to the street and Sienna had instantly become entranced. She was borderline obsessed.
I was beginning to wonder if I needed to intervene with my cousin’s new obsession, but so far she had done nothing but watch Greg’s every move. It was harmless, right? She wasn’t going to take things too far, surely. By the time I left for work a few hours later, Sienna was still sitting on the couch, but was no longer staring out the front window. She was staring blankly at the floor with no expression on her face. Before I could ask what was wrong, Sienna jumped off the couch and rushed at me. I backed up a few steps hoping to get out of her way, but the wall stopped me.
“You knew. You knew all along and you let me believe he was interested! He. Has. A. Wife.” Sienna was practically spitting in my face and I didn’t see the knife until it was almost too late. I knew I wouldn’t be able to catch her once she was out the door, but I knew I could scream loud enough for the entire street to hear. I just wish I knew who the knife was for. I just wish Sienna knew it was Greg’s sister and not his wife.
