I knew I was in trouble the moment the sun went behind the clouds. I one hundred percent believed in signs and the missing sun was a red flag. I had had a bad feeling about the meeting today and this only made it worse. My boss never called meetings and especially did provide a lunch to accompany the meeting. Nobody around me seemed as nervous as I was, but no one around me took signs as seriously as I did. No one was as sensitive as I was, but that was okay because I didn’t like them anyway.
My coworkers were selfish and self-centered and wouldn’t lift a hand for anyone but themselves. I slowly and quietly packed up my purse and began to sidle away toward the forest. I lived close enough I could walk home from the spontaneous picnic my boss had arranged, giving me the opportunity to fade into the trees instead of heading toward the parking lot. As soon as I got home, I knew I had made the right decision. The pouring rain started the minute I locked my front door and I sighed with relief. When I turned on the news, I learned exactly what had happened to my coworkers. The rain had obviously ruined the party, but the rain had also brought out the worst side every one of my coworkers. Now everyone would have to believe me when I told them my coworkers were witches.
