When Aimee walked in, I knew we were in trouble. The look in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. I knew she had found my secret – the only one I had ever kept from her. She would never forgive and never forget. But I had been so proud and so excited about the miracle in the woods, I didn’t want to share it with anyone. Especially Aimee. She would take everything special about everything I had worked so hard to protect. Aimee was overly excitable and in her excitement, especially in this situation, I knew she would do more harm than good. The forest would be overrun with those trying to see what I had found and everything would be trampled.
“How… Why? How could you not tell me?” Aimee stumbled over her words as she stormed toward me. I almost put my hands up to stop her, but knew she wouldn’t go so far to touch me. She had never liked being touched by anyone and as she had gotten older, she became colder. Since I knew this moment was a long time coming and had worked hard to perfect a speech to let Aimee down gently. But as soon as her hand curled into a fist, I knew I was in for a fight. A fight I knew I had to win. I had to protect the fairies of the forest. The fairies had saved my life and now I needed to save theirs.
