“I’m free!!”
As I ran out the front door of the building, I started immediately screaming with excitement, but my excitement quickly turned into hysterical sobbing. I knew my coworkers were watching me through their office windows, but I didn’t care. Most of them were the reason I was leaving and the reason I was excited to be leaving.
That and the fact I was finally going to live my dream. Over the past five years, I had managed to save enough money to start my own business and leave town. I thought a small town would be a nice change after living in New York City, but the lack of anonymity got to me. I didn’t like everyone knowing my business and I didn’t like my coworkers dropping hints about my life while we were at work.
Now I was finally heading out of town and wasn’t looking back. I had been preparing myself for this moment and had to restrain myself from running to my car and managed a leisurely stroll. As soon as I started my car, I started crying again. How I had managed working five years in such a toxic workplace was beyond me. Between my tears, I didn’t notice the hand coming from the backseat until it clamped over my mouth. I knew it was the end and I knew it could only be Matty hiding in the back of my car. What he didn’t know was that I had been expecting him.
